5 items to take from your boyfriend's wardrobe

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

Sustainable fashion has become a buzzword, and quite rightly so. We have a large wardrobe. I have a lot of clothes, I'll admit it. However, I'm not yet prepared for a capsule collection (working on it). I'm also not prepared to be without any new things. I am still developing, and that's okay with me. However, I have a brilliant tip for you guys that will help you dress more sustainably while also getting you some brand-new clothes (for free!). View the closet from your partner's side. Here are five things you can take from your husband's closet, I promise.

Before you object, keep in mind that my husband's clothing is enormous and will not fit. Let me assure you that they will. There are a few original techniques to make them function. I will share!

1. If the boyfriend jeans are really his

Recall how, spoiler alert, we were told that the slim jean was no more? Go and borrow a pair of big jeans from the opposite side of the wardrobe rather than purchasing a pair that you might not love (yet). Now that I think about it, those jeans' waists must be enormous. When I take anything from my husband's closet, I know they are for me. No way will they fit, I thought. But with a few little tweaks, they become a perfect.

Jeans that are overly long in fashion Roll that person. Much too large a waist? Use the string hack demonstrated in the movie or belt it.

How to Style: Oversized jeans are so versatile. I like how I can just stick with the entire ensemble and opt for a more macho approach by pairing some loafers with an extra-large cardigan. Alternately, go all out feminine by wearing a tight blouse and heels.

2. Sweater made of cashmere

Since cashmere is costly, you should use it more frequently. That encapsulates sustainable fashion in its purest form. (Shh - don't tell my spouse, will you?) This trick may be applied to any sweatshirt, but I particularly like to wear his large hoodies.

Simply tucking in the large sweater and rolling up the sleeves is a quick and simple style hack. I prefer to have a more defined waist when wearing an enormous piece, therefore I would choose a pair of jeans or pants with a slightly higher waist and an even more slender silhouette (ahem, like a slim jean!).

Let me count the ways, but in a serious sense. Wear it as a sweater dress if you're not as tall as I am and the sweater reaches almost your midriff or longer! Yes, I do! Add a belt if necessary, a pair of tall boots, perhaps a tiny pull on the neck, and you're done.

3. A graphic tshirt

I rarely treat myself to enjoyable graphic t-shirts for whatever reason. However, there are instances when the attire begs for a graphic t-shirt (trust me on this.) The simplest item to take from the husband's closet is this.

Similar to the cashmere sweater, a fashion hack to trim it, tuck it in or tie it.

How to Style: For an edgy style, I adore wearing a graphic t-shirt with leather leggings and high heels. Alternately, to make it more feminine, pair it with your prettiest, most feminine skirt and rose gold pendants to complete your look.

4. A shirt with buttons

I’m not going to advise you to wear his white button-down shirt, despite the fact that it is the standard choice. In fact, it's one of those things I'd urge you to get for yourself (a true classic). But feel free to play with any other of his button-down shirts.

This is pretty much a style hack for everyone. Any print or colour of a traditional button-down shirt may match with virtually anything and any style.

How to Style: I styled his by tying the ends and tucking them into my jeans after leaving a few buttons undone at the bottom. I am achieving a more fitting shape around my waist in this method. After that, extend the sleeves.

You still find it ineffective? Attempt wearing it as a shirt dress. It might be cinched in at the waist or worn with a set of stockings and a pair of long boots.

5. A jacket

The truth be told, this one almost didn't work for me. I was really trying to pull off the huge blazer look. But the blazers were enormously large. I discovered one that had the fewest shoulder padding.

If it's way too big for you, think outside the box and belt it around your waist! It might potentially be worn as a blazer dress if you are a smaller person.

How to Style: Choose a blazer without pronounced shoulder pads. Although I don't like the style, my husband's blazers are enormous, so I opted for one with few shoulder pads. Cinch it at the waist and roll up the sleeves. He was a little perspiring while sporting this outfit, but I assured him it was for sustainable fashion!
